Port Sunlight and Drinks with John
10th April 2026

The Liver Building at the Pier Head
Today, my second in Liverpool, the weather was a lot better, sunny and not so windy. So, I went to the Port Sunlight River Park to have a poke around and take a few photos. You can see some of them in my next post, about the park.
It’s easy enough to get there by car, but parking can be a problem, it’s hard to find the car park. I caught a bus there, the 464 from Liverpool to New Ferry, it takes just over forty minutes. It terminates at the Shorefields Nature Park, a park I visited with John in May last year. I wrote about the trip here. The River Park is a short walk from the last bus stop. After my visit I caught the bus back to Liverpool.
The bus goes through the old Mersey Tunnel. If you can, sit on the top deck at the front and you’ll get a bird’s eye view of the tunnel as you go through it.
On return I had a quick pint at the Ship and Mitre and then went to the Vines, to meet John for a few bevvies. Because of the Grand National at Aintree the pub was heaving, full of incredibly noisy people. Not a place for a quiet pint. I managed to contact John and changed our venue to the Agustus John, out at the university.
We had an excellent session there. The beer is keenly priced, still under £4 (just), they also do a few ciders, and sometimes a perry. One problem, they don’t take cash, just cards. Just after 6 I caught the 7 bus back to mum.
The above photo was taken around the same time as the one at the top of yesterday’s diary post. Directly above the buildings there were clouds and the sun wasn’t shining. It was taken during this trip, but not today.
