My first full day in Liverpool, the weather was cold, wet and windy, so no photography.

Instead, I arranged to meet John in the Bow-Legged Beagle in New Brighton. I caught the bus there, stopping for a quick pint in the Twelve-Sixty Bar and Lounge in Liscard. Worth a visit, but if it’s open, the Lazy Landlord nearby is a better bet. You can also get the train there, it’s quicker, around thirty minutes.

Waiting for the twelve-sixty to open at 12, I had a walk around central Liscard, including the shopping centre. Something I won’t be doing again, no way Jose. I’ll make sure I don’t arrive too early.

The real ale at the beagle is still excellent with pints under £4.00. It’s a lovely place to go for a drink and while away the hours. It’s not in the Good Beer Guide, it should be.

I hadn’t been there for some time, but a man recognised me as the person who hates dogs. When I was there last time his dog was giving me grief. Luckily, he arrived just before we left. The only thing I said to him was that I still hate dogs.

New Brighton is a much nicer place to walk around. It’s at the mouth of the River Mersey; you can walk along the Irish Sea coast and the River Mersey bank. There’s a lovely walk from Secombe (easily accessible by bus, and sometimes the ferry), I did it last year, I wrote about it here.

I caught the train back to Broad Green station, to get back to mum quicker.

John caught the train out to New Brighton. He told me that it was chaos at Liverpool Central station, the queue to get in was massive, stretching outside the station. The reason for this was that the Grand National was taking place at Aintree racecourse. Luckily, he was not going past Aintree, somebody helped him gain quick access. He doesn’t have much luck meeting me in New Brighton, last time he fell over and cut is knee badly.
