Huddersfield Station Upgrade
7th September 2025
Huddersfield station is also being remodelled. They are extending the lengths of the existing platforms so that larger trains can use the station. They are also adding a fourth through platform. These photos show the state of the work last Friday afternoon, seven days into it. Only another twenty-three to go.
The station is obviously closed while the works are taking place. It closed on the 30th of August and is not due to reopen until the 28th of September.
While closed, there are lots of replacement buses. People wanting through trains to Manchester and Leeds are being bused to Brighouse, to catch a train there. Local services to Stalybridge have a bus replacement service, stopping at all stations enroute. A lot, lot slower than the rail service. Similar arrangements are in place for the local trains to Sheffield, Wakefield, Leeds and Bradford.
I wandered past the front of the station twice last Friday afternoon and there were not a lot of people waiting for replacement buses. Usually, there are loads of people at the station on a Friday. Most people seem to have found other ways of traveling.
I’ve seen many of the replacement buses/coaches passing through Marsden, they are mostly empty!
In the background of each photo, you can see the crawler crane towering over the station.
This post is part of a series of posts about the Huddersfield Station upgrade. The first one is here.
