Huddersfield Railway Bridge Removed

6th September 2025

John William Street without the railway bridge, one

These photo show John William Street with the old railway bridge removed, prior to the installation of the new one.

In the photo below you can just about make out the Sportsman pub (one of my favourites, see this post), it’s behind the traffic light in the centre. The bridge replacement is taking six weeks, which gives the landlord lower business and sleepless nights. When they removed the old sections of the bridge, they passed within meters of the pub.

The photo below shows the view from the pub.

Unfortunately, I do not have any photos of the original bridge, because I did not know they were going to replace it. I also have none of the station as it was before the upgrade. I’ve done this before, not taking photos of something before a major change, this must change!

This post is part of a series of posts about the Huddersfield Station upgrade. The first one is here, and the next one is here.
