Buying a Monitor for my Computer
Last Saturday (18th July), I ordered an expensive computer monitor from Amazon, like £318 expensive. Delivery was supposed to be the following day. It never arrived; they said it would come Monday now. Today is Thursday; it still hasn’t arrived. The tracking webpage says Delivery date currently unavailable. It also says I can get a refund by clicking the button below. When clicked, you see the message: Sorry, there’s a problem finding options; contact us.
Did this via chat.
After all the AI crap, I eventually reached a human who said I can do a refund for you. I’ll do it now. He disconnected himself from the chat before actually doing it.
The next human on the chat said the monitor should be with me by the 26th and that I should contact Amazon after that date if it doesn’t arrive. I have an email from a guy called Jhon confirming this. I’ve received no other emails about a 26th delivery date, nothing, nada.
The next human said I had to wait until tomorrow, the 24th, for my refund.
I told him about the above. He said, “Trust me, you’ll get a refund tomorrow.” I said you lot have told me three different things so far; how can I trust you? All I could get out of him was trust me. I asked him if he was human or AI; he didn’t answer.
I then asked how to raise a complaint. You do this via email; the complaint has just gone in, with all the evidence. In the complaint, I also sent a screenshot of the product page taken this morning. If you order the monitor today, you get delivery tomorrow! Not expecting a reply.
Update Friday 24th July.
I started a chat this morning. I wanted my money. They’d already started processing it. They say funds may take 5-7 days to process. If you haven’t received it by the 31st July, contact us. Not hopeful.
Update Monday 27th July.
The refund has not arrived yet.
Update Tuesday 28th July.
The refund has arrived. According to the product page on Amazon, if you buy it today, it’ll be delivered tomorrow!
Prime Video
We currently have advert-free Prime Video. We need subtitles for my wife. Some issues:
Watching a series, four or five episodes in, we had an episode with adverts. Complained about this and got nowhere; just not interested.
Sometimes you don’t get the full subtitle; they clip the last couple of words. If it’s foreign, you have to guess the end of what they are saying.
We watch a lot of foreign dramas. Subtitles are English CC, which means English is subtitled as well. All the streaming services seem to do this, apart from Amazon. They have a different approach; they only have subtitles for the foreign speech, not for the English speech. This is a problem for my wife.
On Monday we started watching a Series set in the Australian outback, which looked promising. The first episode had English subtitles. The second episode only had Spanish subtitles, no English subtitles!!!!!
They’ve got to have an AI system doing this. A human couldn’t fuck it up so much. I’ve cancelled the advert-free Prime Video. Apple’s got some interesting stuff; we’ll be trying them.
Currys
Other companies also have problems.
The other week my sister bought an expensive laptop from these people. It arrived without a charger. You’d have thought the one thing a laptop really, really needs is a charger. Not these people. They expect you to buy it separately. I don’t know how they expect you to do the initial charging without a charger. Magic maybe.
She argued with them and eventually got an e-voucher from them so she could buy one. And then the post office cocked up its delivery; it was sent to the wrong sorting office!
