Christmas Day Trains

25th December 2025

Christmas tree outside Huddersfield station

I wasn’t going to use this photo as the tree seems to be falling over a little (well done Kirklees). But I needed a Christmassy photo for today. So, I changed my mind.

Quick post today.

A quick look at the Deutch Bahn railway timetable tells me that in the next two hours or so (I wrote this just after 9 this morning), I can catch a train from Paris to the following places: Brussels, Amsterdam, Copenhagen, Hamberg, Berlin, Warsaw, Prague, Frankfurt, Vienna, Budapest, Munich, Zurich, Geneva, Milan, Rome, Nice, Barcelona and Madrid. Pretty much anywhere on the continent, but not London.

Where can I go by train from London today, answer, nowhere. No trains run in this country today.

However, they run all over the continent. Why?
