Reliance Garage: The MOT was Done Here

Today our car had its MOT; it passed!

Over the last three years, the MOT’s have cost us over £1,000. That’s the problem with old cars.

As I get older (I’m 71), I’m getting more and more tired of driving. We’d decided that if there were lots of faults, we would get rid of the car. We would go careless. Because it passed, we’ve decided to keep it for another year. It goes next year, which gives us a year to prepare.

Our car is a Skoda Octavia Diesel, a 1.9TDI model. It’s nearly twenty years old with around 125,000 miles on the clock. We bought it back in 2008, when everyone was saying buy diesel cars, they’re good for the planet. Just after we bought it, they changed their minds. It’s worth just about nothing now.

Over the next six months, I’ll be writing several posts about going carless.
