A new leaf bookshop

A New Leaf, Marsden

A New Leaf is a bookshop cum cafe that has recently opened in Marsden.

Just after it opened, I had a look around to see what books they sold. There were none that interested me. It’s a small shop that does not have a large range of books. I asked if I could order books and how much would they cost. The answer was yes, you can, the cost will be the registered retail price, you pay a fiver deposit and the remainder when the book arrives, usually in a few days. They’ll text you when the book arrives.

It’s not as cheap as Amazon (up to now I’ve bought all my books from them), but most of the time it’s only a pound or so more. So, I’ve decided to support them, and I’ve bought a few books from them recently. I don’t mind it costing a pound or so more. But recently I bought Edward Snowdon’s book A Memoir of a Reluctant Whistleblower, I bought it from Amazon as it was £3 cheaper.

They have a shop down in Slaithwaite and a website you can buy books from. They also have a number of book clubs, where you can discuss books.

A Memory

A few years before Covid I was at a Microsoft seminar about the Microsoft Azure Cloud. I had a book with me, to read during the breaks. While I was reading it, a young couple wandered past me. One of them said, you’re reading a book, that’s pretty retro!
