Retired Not Out, Paul Chappell's Journal

Tynemouth Coast

18th September 2025

The other day we got the metro out to Tynemouth for a looksie, I wrote about that trip here. On this page are some of the photos I took.

The photo below shows the Victorian columns at Tynemouth station.

The next two photos show the view along Longsands towards Cullercoats.

There were a number of surfers in the bay; there is a surfing school here.

Far out to sea there where two ships. Using my camera on full zoom with a bean bag to support it, I managed to get the next two shots.

At the Tynemouth end of the bay, there is the Tynemouth Outdoor Pool. As you can see, it’s in a sorry state. However, the Friends of the Tynemouth Outdoor Pool are hoping to restore it. If you look out to sea, you can just make out the tanker in the above photo!

As you can see in the photos below, it was a very gloomy day. The first photo shows a boat leaving the River Tyne for the open sea. The second photo shows the boat approaching the tanker.

Just as we reached the centre of town it started to rain. The photo shows the clock tower with the castle behind it.

It was now raining heavily, so we went for a coffee. After the coffee we decided to go to the Tynemouth Lodge Hotel, it was promising more rain, and we were a little tired from the long walk. I will return next year to complete the photos of the coast at Tynemouth.
