Eastham Ferry
3rd March 2026

This morning, I drove over to the Wirral to visit a few more out of the way places on the banks of the Mersey.
The first place I visited was Eastham Ferry. Not much here just a view over the River Mersey where I took the photos on this page. Liverpool was a long way away, so I used a high zoom on the lens. The weather was sunny, but hazy, as can be seen in the photos on this page.
You can get the 38 bus here from the Birkenhead bus station, it takes just over an hour and runs hourly. There are several buses an hour from Liverpool to the bus station.
There is a park here, the Eastham Country Park. Looking at my explorer map, you can walk across the fields to Bromborough (some of it’s through the country park), where you’ll find the Bow-Legged Beagle micro pub, an excellent pub that’s a regular entry in the Good Beer Guide.

When I saw the sign below I thought it said ‘Stand for Scabs’!

The other place I wanted to visit was the Port Sunlight River Park, but due to all the housing being built around it, I couldn’t find anywhere to park, so I gave up and went back to the sisters. I’ll try again in April when I’m over for a week to look after mum while my sisters goes to Cyprus. It’s easy to get there by bus, the 464 runs from Liverpool twice an hour during the day and terminates close by. From the terminus, it’s a pleasant walk across the park.
To get there you walk through Shorefields park, which I visited with John last May, see this journal post.
