Christmas, Monschau, Germany in 2010
Two days ago, I went to the Aldi store in Slathwaite to purchase some falling-down water. They had Christmas decorations up; it was the third of November!
I told my sister; she said she’d been to Home and Bargain, and they were playing Christmas Music!
Today we were in Sainsbury’s for our weekly shop. At first glance, it looked like it was a Christmas-free zone. No, decorations were hanging from the ceiling; they just didn’t mention Christmas and didn’t look like Christmas decorations. Above some shelving units were signs: ‘Christmas Favourites’. Still, at least it’s more subtle than Aldi.
Why can’t they leave Christmas to December?
I was going to give Aldi a Mariana Trench Award. I’ve decided not to; naughty gnome points to all three stores.
Sainsbury’s never plays music in their stores until close to Christmas. Then, they bombard us with Christmas songs. If they don’t play music at other times of the year (like 48 weeks of it), why play it at Christmas? Retail management works in mysterious ways. If they had their way, they’d probably start Christmas on 6th January and end it on 5th January next year.
Talking about retail management, why are they always moving produce around the store? You’ve just about worked out where everything is after the last move; then they move it again! Bastards.
